TWO DAYS WITH FAMILY ON LEMUKUTAN ISLAND

By: Shelly

As one of the favorite tourist destinations in West Kalimantan, Lemukutan Island is one of the places I’ve always wanted to visit. This time, I went with my family for two days to spend time together on Lemukutan Island. We explored the sea, which people say is as clear as glass, beaches with beautiful coral reefs, and felt a sense of calm that is hard to find in the city. This is the complete story of our family trip to Lemukutan Island.

So we departed from Pontianak to reach the boat crossing. We left Pontianak at 6 a.m. and arrived at the port, where we boarded the boat at 8 a.m. We reached Lemukutan Island, specifically the Melanau Bay area, at 10 a.m., so the crossing only took about two hours.

When we arrived, we went straight to the room we had booked and enjoyed the meals that were already prepared at the accommodation. The place we stayed in included meals as well as activities such as banana boating and snorkeling. The total cost was only Rp 500,000 per person.

At 3 p.m., we went snorkeling. The underwater view in Lemukutan Island was incredibly beautiful, with many colorful fish, including clownfish. After snorkeling, we continued by riding the banana boat. All the activities were so much fun and truly addictive.

As sunset approached, we headed to the beach to enjoy the view. When we arrived, we were amazed by the unique shoreline of Lemukutan Island. Unlike most beaches that have sandy shores, the coastline here is made up of coral fragments of various shapes, making it very unique.

When night came, we returned to our accommodation to rest. The next morning, after having our meal, we walked back to the beach—and to our surprise, the tide had receded. The beach revealed stunning coral formations that became visible during low tide. We could see the corals up close without having to dive.

At 10 A.M., we boarded the boat to return to the mainland, and after a two-hour journey, we arrived back at the port. From there, we continued our trip by car and returned to Pontianak.
