The Effect of Reading Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint

By: Gwen Vashawnta

Reading novels is one of the most common hobbies around the world. Many people love to read in order to escape reality, to relax, or simply for entertainment purposes. I also like to read novels, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. I could spend an entire day just reading Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint by Shin-Shong. It is a novel that many people say is one of the most heartbreaking stories ever written.

At first, I read that novel only for entertainment, but as I continued reading, I found myself slowly becoming depressed. My mood completely changed after seeing the main character go through so many tribulations. It really affected my days, as if I were the one experiencing those hardships. This experience made me realize how easily I can be influenced by something. This may not only happen to me, but also to others.

As the novel reached its ending, I felt so empty. Of course, this does not mean that sad novels are harmful. In fact, they can teach us empathy and valuable life lessons. By reading such novels, we can learn to understand other people’s emotions and reflect on our own lives. However, reading too many sad or tragic novels can make us feel drained, empty, or slightly depressed. Balance is important.

In conclusion, what we watch, read, and listen truly affects our minds. The key is not to avoid sad or tragic novels, but to consume them wisely and remember to take care of our own emotional well-being.
