My Unforgettable Experience at the Retreat
By: Earlene Yocelyn
Last year, all eleventh-grade students from every major joined a Christian retreat that lasted for three days and two nights in Anjungan, Pontianak. It was one of the most meaningful school experiences I have ever had. At first, I wasn't really excited to go because I imagined the place would have no signal, only dirty bathrooms. But now, it is one of the experiences I wish I could live through again.
During retreat, we were divided into several groups and each group had to perform a short drama based on the story from the Bible. I was in a group with students from different majors and classes that I didn't know very well at first. There were many unforgettable moments during our practice. We laughed when someone forgot their lines, helped each other prepare costumes, and got some fun together. Even though we had only short time to prepare, everyone worked together with teamwork. In the end, all our effort was worth it because we won third place in the drama competition.
After a long day of activities, all of us come together under the cool night sky preparing wood and setting up the fire. When the flames finally rose, the atmosphere became warm and exciting. We also spent the night having barbecue and sharing stories while laughing together. We finally went to sleep around midnight.
Overall, the retreat became an experience that truly left a deep impression on me. At the beginning we did not know each other well. At the end we really know each other. I am truly grateful to have met all of them. Every moment we shared felt meaningful and deeply memorable. Whether we were laughing together, playfully teasing one another, offering help when needed, or sharing countless stories and experiences.
