WHY CORRECT HANDLING OF RACKET IS IMPORTANT

Badminton is one of the most famous sports in Indonesia. For me badminton is not difficult. I can say that because I have experience in badminton since I was young. But I focused on badminton around 4 until 5 years ago. I have also practiced in some clubs for around 3 months. One day I was playing with my friends, when I saw many of my friends still hold the handle of the racket incorrectly. Ways to hold a racket are divided into 2 ways.

The first one is the forehand. Forehand is usually used for lobbing, smashing, drop-shooting, netting and driving. For the forehand handle, our hand should form like a handshake and the thumb should be positioned like a “V” letter parallel with the handle of the racket. Ways to hit with forehand form is not just by using the arm. This is usually considered weird by my friends. But basically, the correct way to hit is also by using the wrist, elbow and shoulder.

The second one is the backhand. Backhand is usually used to perform lobbing, drop shooting, defending, netting and driving. For the backhand, the thumb is positioned straight with the handle of the racket. Ways to hit are almost the same with forehand. But, the backhand needs a little bit more swinging and precise hitting point to achieve maximum hit.

By mastering 2 ways to handle we can make sure our shots will not be weak or hesitant. Also, our shots will not be easily returned by opponents. After mastering the ways of holding the racket, we can also combine some trickshots. Besides that, by using the correct handle we can minimize the risk of injury. (FERNB)
