How To Choose a Fragrance Scent
By: Sepriyanto
For me, a fragrance scent is an identity of a perfume. I usually call it the DNA of the perfume, it is a manifestation of a perfumer's talent, experience, and knowledge. You should care about your scent's characteristics and the occasions to choose a fragrance. It's the most important aspect to choose a fragrance scent.
I'll make it into three occasions to make it simple. Formal, casual, and versatile scent, first of all is formal scent occasions. Oud and spices such as pepper or cardamom with a bit of vanilla and rose scent are the most perfect notes for formal scent, from what I have is Fragrance World Louis Ombre which is the clone of Louis Vuitton Ombre Nade. The characteristics for formal occasions must be bold and charismatic because most formal occasions have a very important atmosphere.
The second one is the most common scent, casual. For a casual scent, you must categorize it into two scent characteristics, fresh and sweet. Fresh casual scent must be used at day time because the characteristics of fresh scent is bright and cheerful. I suggest you choose a citrusy and aquatic scent, such as mandarin orange, lemon, and bergamot for example. At night time, sweet and creamy scent is the best option, sweet creamy vanilla combined with tonka bean is the best scent notes for night hangout occasion fragrance.
But, there are some notes categorized as versatile notes. Fruity notes such as apple, mango, pineapple, and coconut, these notes are categorized as versatile notes because the scent characteristics are sweet and fresh at the same time. So in my conclusion you must know the occasions and each characteristics of the notes to help you choose a fragrance scent.
