How Muscle Mass Affects Our Health

By: Han Kelsen

Having muscles is part of my life, I’ve been training many exercises at my house. I did this on purpose to build muscles, consistently for almost 3 years. Building muscles has changed my life, not only some physical changes but also it strengthened my mental health. When I started building muscles, I didn't realize how much effort, discipline, and consistency I had to put in. Until this day. In this writing, I want to share some health benefits of having muscles.

Having muscle is very important for our body, because they help boost our metabolism. When our body has more muscles, the body burns more calories, even when we are not active or sleeping. It means muscle helps me control my bodyweight. When I was younger, I was fat. After I gained some muscles, I felt more energized. I also looked healthier than before.

Having muscles is not only about bodyweight, but also the immune system. When I built more muscles and exercised more often, I noticed that I rarely get sick. This is because our body’s immune system is getting stronger than before. By exercising, the blood flows better and carries more oxygen to every part of the body. As a result,, this helps the immune system work faster and stronger to fight from germs and illness.

I noticed some significant changes in my body, especially my joints and knees. The bones and joints were protected by the muscles. The muscle around the joints, shoulders, and knees. Those parts of muscle could absorb the pressure when we run, jump, even carry heavy stuff. Muscles help me to move with better control. We are less prone to injury or sudden wrong movements that might hurt us.

Having muscle also improves our mental health. When I exercise, I feel happy, my mind feels calm. According to American Psychological Association, physical activities trigger a release of dopamine and serotonin, which can improve mood. For example, exercise helps people who have stress and anxiety. I felt the impact l, I felt free from outside thoughts. All of the positive feelings combined together.

In conclusion, having muscles helps us control our bodyweight, strengthen our immune system, and makes the joints and knees stronger. Lowering the risk of injury that might hurt us. Improving our mental health by releasing dopamine and serotonin hormone. Improve our mood, exercise, and contribute as a mood booster.
