How Important Protein is For The Body

By: Cheric Hoseki Chin

I’ve been gym for 6 month and from that experience I learned many things, and the one thing that I learned from gym is functions of protein.

Most people go to the gym but they don’t know the benefits of protein. Protein is very important for your muscle because the function of protein is for muscle recovery. During weight lifting, muscle got micro tears, protein is used to repair these micro tears.

Protein is not only earned through supplements like whey protein. You can get protein from real food too. According to Abbott protein is divided into 2 types :

Animal based protein

Animal protein, which comes from sources such as eggs, fish, lean meat, poultry, and milk, is a complete protein source because it contains all nine essential amino acids the body needs. Animal protein also contains additional nutrients such as vitamin B12 and animal-based iron, which are better absorbed than plant-based iron.

Plant based protein

Plant-based proteins can be found in a variety of foods, some of which are even complete proteins, such as soybeans and quinoa. Other plant-based protein sources, such as nuts, peas, and wheat, are generally deficient in one or more amino acids or contain too little of each. However, by combining different plant-based proteins, you can meet all your body’s amino acid needs.

Protein is not only good for bodybuilding, Abbott also stated that the general functions of protein are:

Growth and maintenance of body tissues

Enzyme Activity

Hormonal Activity

Structural Support

Controlling pH and Fluid Balance

Immune response

Delivering and storing nutrients

Provides energy.

In conclusion, protein is an essential nutrient that supports almost every function in our body. Whether it comes from animal or plant sources, consuming enough protein helps maintain health, repair tissues, and build strength. Therefore, understanding and balancing your protein intake is key to achieving a healthy and active lifestyle.
