How I Changed Myself

By: Immanuel Renato Jovandy

When I was around 15 to 16 years old, I was classified as obese. This happened because of the COVID-19 pandemic. During that time, schools were closed and changed to online learning. Because of that, I often spent my days at home just eating, sleeping, and playing games. My eating habits became irregular, and my sleeping schedule was reversed. At that time, my weight reached 82 kilograms, and I often complained that my clothes and pants no longer fit me.

My friends also made fun of me because of my weight. I felt bullied since every time I met them, I always became the subject of their jokes. I also started to feel insecure about myself because I thought I was too fat and ate too much oily food. That’s when I decided to change my eating and sleeping habits, and I started exercising regularly every day to lose weight and stop being the target of jokes.

I began to exercise and manage my lifestyle with discipline. I reduced oily foods, sweet drinks, and high-calorie meals. I also counted my calorie intake and made sure to burn more calories than I consumed. For example, if I ate 700 calories a day, I had to burn more than 700 calories through activities such as running, push-ups, sit-ups, and other exercises. Because I did this regularly for about two to three months, my weight dropped drastically from 82 kilograms to 60 kilograms.

As a result, many people praised me because I was no longer obese and looked much healthier. Even my friends who used to tease and make fun of me started to compliment me for my achievement. So, if you are often made fun of or teased by your friends because of your appearance, don’t be discouraged. Instead, try to improve yourself by exercising and learning how to build better relationships. This will help you become a better person and change the way others see you.
