A Simple Way to Breed Betta Fish and Care for the Eggs Before and After Hatching

To begin breeding betta fish, first prepare a container large enough to hold both the male and female betta fish comfortably. Fill the container with rainwater and add a few dried Cattapa (Indian Almond) leaves, which act as a natural antifungal agent. Wait until the water turns a brownish color from the leaves.

Then, introduce the male betta into the container and wait until he builds a bubble nest at the surface. Once the nest is ready, usually in the evening around 5 PM, gently add the female betta. The next morning, remove the female to prevent her from eating the eggs.

Do not feed the male during the next three days as he will guard the eggs and take care of them. After three days, all the eggs will hatch, and you can begin feeding the fry with baby brine shrimp or newly hatched daphnia. After another four days, remove the male and continue feeding the fry once daily, adjusting the amount based on the number of fish.

By the age of three months, the young bettas will begin to show their unique colors, often Resembling their parents. At six months, they are fully mature and ready to breed. You can then repeat the cycle.

As a tip, there is no need to change the water for up to a month if the container is very large, that it would not affect the water quality. If it is small, simply siphon the bottom of the tank and slowly refill it with fresh rainwater. Once the Bettas reach six months old, separate each male into individual containers, while the females can stay together in groups.

Finally, I hope these simple steps based on my two years of experience in keeping betta fish and breeding them, from 2016-2018. Helps those who want to start their own Betta farm. (Iv.)
